The criminal career of Escobar allegedly began as a teenager when he was supposed to steal gravestones, and sand them down for resale to local smugglers. Then he left school without a degree and began to engage in all kinds of criminal activities.

At first, Pablo took part in the sale of contraband cigarettes and fake lottery tickets and took part in the theft of motor vehicles. He worked for various smugglers of contraband in the 1970s, often abducting people and holding them for ransom.

He decided to expand his territory; so he started distributing powder cocaine himself and setting up the very first smuggling routes to the United States in 1975.

The Colombian drug lord conquered the U.S. drug market, unlimitedly expanding due to increased cocaine demand.

As a result of the activities of Pablo’s drug network known as the Medellin Cartel and clashes with rival cartels at home and abroad, police officers including judges, locals, and prominent politicians were massacred and murdered.

The compound included a soccer field, a dollhouse for his daughter, a discotheque, and its bar. In addition to cell phones, radio transmitters, and a fax machine there was a waterfall to allow him to continue the business; bringing his cartel $60 million a day at its peak and overseeing control of up to 80% of the cocaine shipped to the United States.

The Colombian National Police shot Escobar in a middle-class neighborhood in Medellin on December 2, 1993, after 16 months of his escape.

The police used radio triangulation technology to find him, provided to the Colombian electronic surveillance team by the U.S. government.

During a firefight, Pablo and his bodyguard were shot and killed as Escobar tried to escape through a series of rooftops.


However, there’s a mystery about his death as his family members mentioned it as a suicide. Later, the Colombian government took responsibility in this matter.

Although he is not alive today, yet he remains a subject of several books, films, and series based on his life.
